SLIDING SCALE

I offer a sliding scale as an invitation to build community and address systemic inequality. We live in a system that doesn’t distribute resources equitably. I don’t believe that income should determine whether someone can access services that improve quality of life.

HOW IT WORKS

I have a “regular rate” for organizing services. From there, the price goes up or down depending on your resources. I don't receive any outside funding to supplement sliding scale discounts. When you pay more, you’re helping others access my services. When you pay the regular rate, you’re helping me support my family and cover costs. When you pay less, you’re allowing your community to support you. All of these are valuable ways of participating in the scale. Below are some criteria to help you choose what to pay. Where you fall on the scale does not determine your value as a person. If you’ve used the wrong end of a sliding scale in the past, just make a different choice next time. We also offer packages! SLIDING SCALE CRITERIA:
How to Decide What to Pay

Take a moment to honestly self-reflect on how your life experience has shaped your perception of scarcity, privilege, equity, class and community. Please keep in mind that “basic needs” includes things like food, shelter, and the cost of maintaining mental and physical health. It does not include things like private school tuition and payments for luxury homes or cars. Thank you for your consideration and mindfulness!

Pay the Supporter Rate

$150/hr

if many or all of the following are true:

  • I can cover my basic needs and extras regularly

  • I may have debt but it doesn’t prevent me from meeting my basic needs

  • I own or rent a higher-end property

  • I own or lease a car

  • I am employed or don’t need to work full-time to meet my needs

  • I have consistent access to healthcare

  • have access to personal savings/ investments or generational wealth

  • I can afford to buy new things

  • I can afford annual vacations without financial burden

Pay the REGULAR Rate

$105/hr

if many or all of the following are true:

  • I may stress about meeting basic needs but still able to achieve them

  • I may have debt but it doesn’t prevent me from meeting my basic needs

  • I own or rent a comfortable home

  • I am employed

  • I have access to health care

  • I have some expendable income and maybe some savings

  • I can buy some new things and thrift others

  • I can vacation annually or every couple of years without financial burden

  • Paying this price might be a sacrifice (not going out to eat this month) rather than a hardship (not being able to feed/clothe your kids)

Pay the RELIEF Rate

NEW

$85/hr

if either of the following apply:

  • You would typically pay the Regular or Supporter Rate but have been struggling financially due to contraction of the film industry. This includes those who are not working in film but have been affected by the slowdown of the local economy.

  • I frequently stress about meeting my basic needs

  • I am struggling to pay more than minimums on debt

  • I qualify for income-based government assistance like SNAP or Medi-Cal

  • I support others besides myself on my income
